CAROLE REID

Carole Reid joined the XLCR Family in 1960 in 6th Form. Her friends in the back bench in Form 6A were Deighton Cockburn, Neville Duncan, and Michael Canton. Her friends included Claudette Morrison now Smith and of course the esteemed Prof. The Hon. Errol Morrison was at this illustrious place of learning at this time along with our international treasure Sir Willard White. This was the time of the “greats” to name a few.

A former Director of the Bank of Jamaica who was assigned as Human Resource Manager to the National Export-Import Bank of Jamaica, Carole is now Manager, Human Resource & Administration/Company Secretary at Alfrasure Structures & Roofing Limited in Jamaica.

Carole Reid apart from being a Central Banker and Human Resource practitioner most of her life, loves singing. She is a soprano, a member and soloist of the Christ Church Vineyard Town Anglican Church. In addition she is a member of several choirs, & groups including Jamaica Musical Theatre Company, The Diocesan Choir, and The National Dance Theatre Company of Jamaica Limited. With this group she has performed internationally including a performance at Carnegie Hall where she was a soloist.
A performer who is classically trained, she is a recipient of the Institute of Jamaica’s Musgrave Medal (Bronze), and also the JAMI Awards for 1997 & 1998, for best Classical female singer. Other achievements include numerous awards in the Jamaica Music Teacher’s Classical Music Festival. In 1997 she represented Jamaica in the 35th International Eisteddfod of South Africa in the category, Classical Recital (vocal) and attained two (2) silver medals.

In 1999 she coached Kathleen Battle in a folk song of her choice for her performance at King’s House.

She performs extensively throughout Jamaica and also overseas. Over the years she performed in Cayman, Antigua, and St. Lucia as guest soloist with Jamaica Chapel Choir and was well received. Apart from the various choirs and being soloist for National events and State occasions including the funeral services of former Prime Ministers, The Hon. Michael Manley and the Hon. Hugh Shearer, and former Governor General Sir Florizel Glasspole. Carole obtains great satisfaction from working with young people, and singing in the church. She participated several times in one of the calendar events in Jamaica, “The Powerful Women Concert”/Powerful Men & Women Concert.
She has organised and performed in several large concerts. These include concerts throughout Jamaica for various churches, Stars in Concert (Christ Church), Excelsior Past Students, Music through the Ages (Jamaica America Friendship Association), and several concerts in Florida.

Carole’s first CD ‘Carole In Concert’ was launched in Jamaica by Dr. Omar Davis in December 2003. In April 2004 the CD was launched in Long Island, New York to a very responsive audience. In December 2004, Carole’s second CD titled ‘A Gift of Carols’, was launched by Professor The Hon. Rex Nettleford.
